  • CSA SANCTIONE EVENT: Cycling SA enforces minimum age restrictions based on race distances for all sanctioned MTB and Road race events. Please only select a race distance that you are allowed to participate in. Your age is based on the age you will be on 31 December on that year of this race. Should a rider enter a distance that is incorrect according to their age, the rider will be disqualified. Kindly note that this is a CSA sanctioned event. The responsibility for understanding and adhering to the rules and age restrictions rests entirely with the rider. By entering, you are confirming your acknowledgement of these rules and confirming you will abide by them.

  • MTB RACE PACK COLLECTION: MTB race packs are available for collection at the registration venue at Pollok on Friday 9 February and Saturday 10 February and at the Addo Polo Club on Sunday, 11 February. Collection times are indicated on the website, MTB page.

  • ROAD RACE PACK COLLECTION: Road race packs are available for collection at the registration venue at Pollok on Friday 16 February and Saturday 17 February. Collection times are indicated on the website, Road race page. No collection on race day.

  • REFUND POLICY: Should the MTB and/or Road race event be postponed for whatever reason, paid-riders will have 2 options on how to manage their entry: 1) The rider will be entitled to a 50% refund on their entry fee OR 2) The rider may transfer the entry over to the rescheduled MTB and Road race event date at no additional cost. Should the event proceed as initially scheduled no refunds will be permitted unless a doctor’s certificate is submitted.

  • ONLINE ENTRIES: The closing date for online entries is Monday, 5th February 2024 at midday. Late entries will be available at registration, at R200 additional fee per race entry, regardless of the race distance. Junior races excluded.

  • DOWNGRADES: Will be permitted online. Downgrades will incur a R150.00 admin fee. Online downgrades will only be accepted until Monday, 5th February 2023 at midday. Thereafter, downgrades will only be permitted at registration.

  • UPGRADES: Will be permitted online. Upgrades will incur a R150.00 admin fee + outstanding fee. Online upgrades will only be accepted until Monday, 5th February 2023 at midday. Thereafter, upgrades will only be permitted at registration.

  • SUBSTITUTIONS: Will be permitted online. Substitutions will incur a R150.00 admin fee. Online substitutions will only be accepted until Monday, 5th February 2024 at midday. Thereafter, substitutions will only be permitted at registration. Please ensure to bring a signed permission letter from the original rider, which includes their name, surname and ID number.

  • TANDEM ENTRANTS: Tandem entrants must submit 2 separate entry fields online ie: Participant 1’s details and Participant’s 2’s details. Tandem riders are only permitted in the 30km MTB event, 106km Road and 55km Road race event.

  • CHILD ENTRANTS ROAD RACE: The minimum age of a child entering the 55km Pursuit is 12 years of age. We encourage children to be accompanied by an entered adult. The minimum age of entering the 106km Classic open seeded category is 15 years of age. However, should you wish to race for prize money in the C1 racing category, you will need to enter into the Junior Category and possess a valid Domestic Racing Licence that reflects as such.  You therefore have to be 17 years old on the year of the race. Your age is determined by your age as of 31 December 2024.

  • CHILD ENTRANTS MTB RACE: The minimum age of a child entering the 30km Leisure Challenge is 13 years of age, the 60km Adventure is 15 years of age and the 80km Extreme race is 19 years of age. Your age is determined by your age as of 31 December 2024.

  • RACING RULES: CSA and UCI racing rules will be adhered to. For more information on CSA rules and regulations go to www.cyclingsa.com.

  • TECHNICAL/FEED ZONE - MTB: Riders must register their mechanic with the commissaire at the start line in order to make use of the tech/feed zone on-route.

  • HELMET: Must be worn at all times while on the course. NO HELMET - NO RIDE.

  • RACE NUMBERS: Must be fixed on bike (Mountain Bike Race) or back of cyclist (Road race) at all times while on the course.

  • LICENCES: If you do not have a CSA Licence you will be required to purchase a Day Licence at R50 per day. This only applies to the following races: MTB Races: 80km Extreme, 60km Adventure & 30km Leisure Challenge as well as Road Races: 106km Classic and 55km Pursuit.

  • TIME CHIP FOR ROAD: No timing chip, no time. The Chief Commissaires & Finish Line Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  • TIME CHIP FOR MTB: No timing chip is required for the MTB race.

  • PRIZE MONEY ROAD RACE: Rider must possess a valid domestic racing license (Professional CSA racing license) in order to ride in the C1 racing group and to be eligible for prize money. Valid domestic racing license must be presented and verified by commissaire at registration before race pack is handed over to rider. All other riders required to have a membership CSA license (standard license) or Day license. The Chief Commissaires decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  • DOMESTIC RACING LICENSE FOR ROAD RACE (PROFESSIONAL RACING LICENSE): Must be presented at registration when collecting your race pack.

  • CSA LICENSE: Must be presented at registration, unless a Day license is purchased.

  • PODIUM RECOGNITION: Podium positions will only be awarded to top three placings should there be 5 or more participants in that category.

  • POPIA ACT: By registering online you hereby understand and agree that all information provided, whether personal or otherwise, may be used and processed by the organisers of The Herald Cycle Tour event, and such use may include sharing such information with 3rd party external service providers connected to The Herald Cycle Tour event.

  • PHOTOS AND VIDEOS CONSENT: The rider and his/her spectators  grant permission and give The Herald organisers consent to release photograph(s) or electronic media taken at The Herald Cycle Tour events. The rider and his/her spectators understand that the images may appear on the website managed or owned by the recipient (The Herald Cycle Tour organisers) and any other publication or broadcasts, including advertisements, leaflets, posters and social media platforms. The photos shall be limited to use for The Herald Cycle Tour event, and will not be used for any other purposes. The Herald organisers will not include personal details (such as postal addresses, or telephone number) on our website, printed materials or other marketing/promotional materials.   • TREK LUCKY DRAW PRIZE: The Herald organisers, Race Directors and official sponsors of The Herald Cycle Tour event and their immediate families are not eligible to win the Trek bicycle lucky draw prize, which will be handed over at the Road Race prize-giving session.

Waiver & Indemnity

Participants take part entirely at their own risk and agree that they shall have no claim whatsoever against the organising bodies, and individual or official marshall, assistant, helper or agent, the sponsors or any local authorities or their employees, in respect of any loss or damage whatsoever which participants may suffer arising from any injury to their person or loss or damage to their property as a result of, or arising out of, whether directly or indirectly, the participant’s participation in the race itself, the participants arrival and departure therefrom, attendance at race pack collection, prize-giving or other function thereof, any loss or damage to bicycles or other equipment, however such loss or damage may arise regardless of whether or not the same shall have been caused directly or indirectly by the negligence albeit gross, of one or more of the aforementioned parties. Persons signing this entry form as guardian of a minor hereby consent to such minor being bound by the aforementioned parties to the extent, if any to which such minor being is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above.
