70km Route Description

The 70km route starts at Hobie Beach and heads out towards Mount Pleasant going through Walmer along Heugh Road. After the Mount Pleasant climb the route goes right along Old Seaview Road and includes the very steep but short Longbarn Climb. At Welcome Road the riders then turn right and heads towards Theascombe. The hill at Welcome Road is an ideal place for the climbers to make a break and get some distance between them and the rest.

At the Lake Farm intersection with Kragga Kamma Road the riders turn left and go along the windy scenic route past Lake Farm Centre and the Lake. The climb after the Lake is short and can give the climbers a second change to shake off the non-climbers who may still be hanging onto the bunch. The descent after the climb is short and steep and riders have to exercise extreme caution because there is a right hand turn back into Old Seaview Road.

The riders then head back towards town on Seaview Road with a right turn into Heron Road and then left into Sardinia Bay Road. Sardinia Bay Road is deceptive as it looks flat but the entire way to Scheonmakerskop Road has a gentle incline to it.

Riders then turn right into Scheonmakerskop Road and go via the seaside village of Scheonmakerskop and head home along the beach back to Hobie Beach. If the Easterly wind is blowing on the day this section will be directly into the wind and will sort out who is the strongest in the bunch. If the Westerly is blowing on the day, this section becomes a high speed section all the way to the finish.

105km Route Description

The 105km route starts at Hobie Beach and heads out towards Mount Pleasant going through Walmer along Heugh Road. After the Mount Pleasant climb the route continues straight along Seaview Road past Bushy Park Farm and then turns right into Old Seaview Road heading towards Welcome Avenue.

At Welcome Avenue, the riders turn left, joining up with the 70km route which comes from the opposite direction from old Seaview Road. The Welcome Road hill will be a challenge for some of the riders but the front riders could possibly not use this hill for any breakaways or challenges as more challenging hills are to follow.

At the Lake Farm intersection with Kragga Kamma Road the riders turn right up towards an incline which local riders call Gunshot Hill. After this the road flattens out to the highest point on the route going past Altona School and Fairview Race Course. High speeds will be reached down the steep section of The Wall before turning right heading towards Maitland River Mouth. Maitland Hill awaits the riders where there is also the King of the Mountain hotspot.

After Maitland Hill the route continues along the sea going through Beachview and Seaview and then along Seaview Road heading back towards town. Just before Bushy Park Farm on the flat section is the Sprinters hot spot. The riders turn right into Heron Road and then left again into Sardinia Bay Road. Sardinia Bay Road is deceptive in that it looks flat but it has a gentle climb to it all the way up to Sckoenmakerskop Road.

At Scheonmakerskop Road the route goes right towards the seaside village of Scheonmakerskop. From here the route is along the sea and depending on the wind direction this section can become a nightmare if the Easterly is blowing or it becomes a pleasure if the westerly is blowing. This takes the riders all the way up to the finish again at Hobie Beach.
