The Route - Mountain Bike Event

Route Description The 2008 Herald VW Mountain Bike Event starts and finishes at the Addo Elephant National Park and has two route options. The challenging 65km route explores the beauty of the Zuurberg Pass, climbing over this historic 1860’s hand-built road, before descending into the picturesque valleys below. After winding through the undulating bushveld, the route then joins up with the shorter 42km loop. This route meanders through scenic citrus orchards and along the edges of the invitingly cool waters of canals. Then riders get the opportunity to virtually rub shoulders with the mighty Addo Elephants as they hug the game fence-line of the Addo Elephant Park en route back to the finish at the Rest Camp. If this ride doesn’t take your breath away, the awesome scenery and wildlife definitely will! This is one ride you don’t want to miss! Being very hot around this time of year, a high factor sunblock is recommended and riders are advised to make use of the numerous watering points along the route to quench their thirst.        Getting There!
