From the 1st January 2008 all South African cyclists participating in cycling events in South Africa will be required to have one of the following licences to be able to participate in events.  This is in accordance with new regulations that have been instituted by the governing body of cycling in the country, Cycling South Africa.  The four categories of licences are as follows:

Elite / Full Licence – These are issued to cyclists who are members of Clubs or Associations and who make application through their Clubs to Cycling South Africa for this level of licence – valid for 1 year.

Cyclosport Licence – These are issued to cyclists who are members of Clubs or Associations and who make application through their Clubs to Cycling South Africa for this level of licence – valid for 1 year.

Recreational Membership Licence – This is status automatically assigned to all cyclists who are members of Clubs or Associations registered with Cycling South Africa – valid for 1 year.

One Day Event Cycling South Africa – These are licences issued to cyclists who are not members of a Club or Association affiliated to Cycling South Africa and who wish to participate in an event.  This licence is issued for use at ONE EVENT ONLY, at a cost of R30.00.
